In March 2022 the Russian news portal Ngs.ru suffered a major cyber attack resulting in a massive data breach. Attackers exploited a vulnerability during a series of intense DDoS attacks to gain unauthorized access to the user database. The compromised information reportedly includes data for 18 million users. Leaked records consist of email addresses, full names, IP addresses, and passwords stored as MD5 hashes with static salt. This incident highlights significant risks for users who reuse passwords across different platforms.
