In January 2017 the Russian Minecraft game server NiceMc experienced a data breach that exposed the personal information of approximately 51 thousand registered players. The incident involved the unauthorized access and distribution of a database containing user credentials. The compromised data included player nicknames email addresses IP addresses and passwords stored as MD5 hashes which are considered cryptographically weak and susceptible to cracking by modern hardware.
