Nihonomaru

In late 2015 the popular anime community forum Nihonomaru suffered a significant data breach. An external attacker successfully compromised the forum database resulting in the exposure of approximately 1.7 million user accounts. The breach involved the unauthorized access to sensitive user credentials and system logs. Technical analysis revealed that the data was secured using MD5 hashing with salt which is considered a weak cryptographic protection by modern standards. This vulnerability likely allowed attackers to decrypt a large portion of the user passwords.
