In March 2016 the European video game publisher Nordic Games suffered a data breach impacting approximately 157 thousand users. The incident involved the compromise of the companys forum database which was running on vBulletin software. The exposed data included usernames email addresses IP addresses and salted hashes of passwords. Shortly after the security incident the company underwent a corporate rebranding and changed its name to THQ Nordic. The breach highlighted vulnerabilities in legacy forum software platforms commonly targeted by hackers for credential harvesting.
