In September 2020 the global game publisher Oasis Games experienced a significant data security incident. The breach resulted in the exposure of sensitive user credentials including account email addresses and passwords. The passwords were protected using MD5 hashing algorithms with static salts which are considered weak by modern security standards. The incident was attributed to a threat actor known as Legend and impacted nearly half a million registered members of the gaming platform.
