OMGPop

In 2019 a significant data breach involving the online gaming site OMGPop was identified. Although the company was acquired by Zynga and later shut down the database containing information from as early as 2013 was exposed. The incident resulted in the compromise of millions of user accounts. The breach is particularly severe because it included plain text passwords and email addresses allowing for immediate unauthorized access to accounts that reused these credentials. The scale of the exposure highlights the risks associated with legacy data management and the importance of decommissioning old databases securely.
