In April 2019 the French blogging platform Overblog experienced a significant security incident resulting in the exposure of approximately 2.1 million user records. The breach involved an unauthorized access to the database containing sensitive member information. The leaked data set included primary contact details such as email addresses and usernames along with technical metadata like IP addresses and device information. Furthermore the leak contained passwords stored using the SHA1 hashing algorithm which is considered cryptographically weak and susceptible to cracking by modern standards. This incident posed a high risk for credential stuffing attacks across other platforms where users might have reused the same login credentials.
