In July 2015 the web hosting provider OVH suffered a data breach affecting its community forum. An unauthorized party gained access to the database containing information for approximately 453 thousand registered users. The compromised data included usernames and email addresses along with IP addresses used during registration or login. Furthermore the breach exposed salted MD5 password hashes which were used to secure user accounts at that time. The incident was attributed to a vulnerability in the forum software that allowed attackers to extract the user table.
