In March 2013 the Pipec news portal experienced a significant security breach affecting its internal database. The incident resulted in the exposure of two main tables including a user table with over 20 thousand entries and a comments table containing approximately 600 thousand records. The compromised data included sensitive personal details and technical identifiers. Security analysis revealed that passwords were stored as MD5 hashes which are considered weak by modern standards and susceptible to cracking. The breach originated from an unauthorized access to the web server hosting the news platform.
