A data breach occurred at the beginning of 2021 affecting the French e-commerce platform Player-top.fr which specializes in automotive electronics and radio equipment. The incident resulted in the unauthorized exposure of a database containing customer records. The leaked information included personal details such as names and email addresses along with technical data like IP addresses and security credentials in the form of MD5 hashed passwords. The exposure posed a risk to users due to the outdated hashing algorithm used for password protection which can be easily decrypted by attackers.
