PlayTech

In January 2014 the gambling software provider PlayTech suffered a significant data breach. The incident resulted in the unauthorized exposure of sensitive user information from their systems. The breach compromised the personal details of approximately 761 thousand registered individuals. Investigation into the incident revealed that attackers managed to gain access to customer databases containing contact information and account identifiers. This leak posed a serious risk to the affected users as the data included physical locations and direct contact methods which could be used for targeted phishing or social engineering attacks.
