In October 2018 the internet television service Pluto TV experienced a significant data breach that was later circulated within hacker communities. The incident involved the unauthorized access and extraction of a user database containing approximately 3.2 million unique records. The company opted not to proactively notify its user base about the security compromise at the time. The exposed information included sensitive user details such as email addresses and passwords hashed using the Bcrypt algorithm along with other personal identifiers and technical data points like IP addresses.
