In August 2016 the PPCGeeks forum dedicated to pocket PC enthusiasts suffered a significant data breach. The incident involved an unauthorized intrusion into the website database resulting in the exposure of sensitive user information. The compromised data included usernames email addresses IP addresses and dates of birth. Furthermore passwords were leaked which were stored using the MD5 hashing algorithm with salt. The breach affected approximately 492 thousand registered members making their accounts vulnerable to credential stuffing and other cyber attacks.
