In May 2020 the social media marketing platform Preen.me suffered a significant security breach after a ransom demand was made by hackers. Following the refusal to pay the database was leaked on public forums. The incident exposed personal details of over 236000 users including their digital identities and links to various social media profiles. The compromise likely occurred due to a vulnerability in the platforms database management system allowing unauthorized access to internal marketing records.
