About this leak
In late 2015 the online community ProgrammingForums.org suffered a significant data breach that exposed the personal information of approximately 707000 unique users. The incident involved the unauthorized access and extraction of the forum database. The compromised data included sensitive information such as email addresses and IP addresses used during registration or posting. Additionally the breach included usernames and passwords that were stored as MD5 hashes with salts. While salting adds a layer of security the use of the MD5 algorithm is considered weak by modern standards making the passwords vulnerable to cracking attempts by malicious actors.
