In July 2020 the video marketing platform Promo experienced a significant data breach affecting millions of users. The incident involved an unauthorized access to their database which resulted in the exposure of approximately 22 million records. The leaked data included 15 million unique email addresses alongside user names gender information IP addresses and password hashes using the SHA-256 algorithm. The breach was attributed to a vulnerability in the service infrastructure that allowed external actors to exfiltrate the user database.
