In July 2015 the Sony PlayStation hacking and modification forum PS3Hax suffered a significant data breach. The incident involved the compromise of approximately 447000 user accounts. The breach was made possible due to vulnerabilities in the vBulletin forum software. The exposed data included usernames email addresses and IP addresses as well as passwords stored as salted hashes. However the weak implementation of the hashing algorithm used by the forum version allowed for the potential decryption of many user passwords by attackers.
