In February 2022 the global sportswear manufacturer Puma suffered a significant data breach following a ransomware attack on its workforce management provider Kronos. The incident resulted in the unauthorized access and theft of personal information belonging to approximately 300 thousand individuals including company employees and their family members. The compromised data was exfiltrated from the Kronos Private Cloud environment which faced a major service disruption. The stolen information included sensitive personal identifiers and contact details which were subsequently leaked online by the attackers to pressure the company.
