In mid-2011 the Russian instant messaging service QIP known as Quiet Internet Pager suffered a massive data security incident. The breach resulted in the compromise of millions of unique user accounts. While the breach occurred over a decade ago the data was not widely circulated in the public domain for many years. In early 2025 a comprehensive version of the database surfaced on the dark web containing approximately 33 million records. The leaked information includes user identifiers such as telephone numbers and electronic mail addresses along with nicknames and specific registration timestamps. The data set also distinguishes between users registered via the main QIP portal and the affiliated Tvidi site. The records are dated around June 2011 suggesting a long-term exposure of historical user credentials.
