R2Games 2017

In early 2017 the gaming platform R2Games suffered a significant data breach affecting its forum community. This incident followed a previous security compromise in 2015. The breach resulted in the exposure of sensitive user information including account details and passwords. Security researchers identified that the passwords were stored using the weak salted MD5 hashing algorithm which made them highly vulnerable to cracking. The leak impacted over one million unique accounts providing unauthorized access to user profiles and associated forum data.
