In July 2023 the Discord verification service RestoreCord suffered a significant security breach. The incident involved an unauthorized actor gaining access to the platform database through an exploit. The leak exposed sensitive user information including unique Discord identifiers and authentication tokens which allowed the service to re-add users to servers. This breach posed a major risk to the privacy of Discord communities relying on the service for member management and verification. The threat actor subsequently shared the database on dark web forums and telegram channels.
