In March 2020 the stock photography website 123RF suffered a significant data breach when a database containing over 8 million user records was stolen and subsequently traded on dark web forums. The incident involved the exfiltration of sensitive user information from their production systems. The compromised data included user credentials stored with MD5 hashing which is considered cryptographically weak and susceptible to cracking. This breach exposed a wide range of personal details including physical locations and contact information of photographers and customers globally.
