RootKit

In February 2011 the Rootkit hacker forum was compromised by an external attack. The incident resulted in the exposure of approximately 80000 user records. The leaked database contained sensitive membership details including nicknames and full names. Technical data such as IP addresses and passwords stored in salted MD5 hash format were also leaked during this security breach. The forum was a well known hub for security research and hacking discussions making the compromise particularly significant for the cybersecurity community at that time.
