Rune Village

The Rune Village community for Runescape players suffered a significant security incident in October 2011. An unauthorized party gained access to the forum database which was running on the phpBB platform. The breach exposed sensitive information belonging to over 45 thousand members. The data compromise included user account details and credentials stored as MD5 hashes which were common for that era of forum software. This incident highlights the vulnerabilities of niche gaming forums during the early 2010s.
