Russian America

In 2017 a security breach affected Russian America which was a web portal serving Russian speaking residents in the United States. The incident led to the exposure of personal data belonging to approximately 183 thousand users. The leaked database contained sensitive information including full names and contact details. Security analysis revealed that passwords were stored either in plain text or using the weak MD5 hashing algorithm which is highly susceptible to cracking. The data was subsequently circulated in the public domain and darknet forums.
