In October 2022 a data security incident involving the website store.sabs.co.za led to the exposure of sensitive information belonging to approximately 93 thousand users. The breach occurred due to an unauthorized data publication on the business improvement portal. Exposed records included personal details such as full names and email addresses along with security credentials in the form of SHA256 hashed passwords. This incident highlights vulnerabilities in web application security and database management for the South African Bureau of Standards retail division.
