In May 2024 a significant data breach occurred at the Russian Cardiological Society known as Scardio. The incident resulted in the unauthorized exposure of a database containing information on approximately 90 thousand medical professionals and employees. The leaked dataset includes sensitive personal details such as full names, email addresses, physical mailing addresses, and phone numbers. Additionally, the breach exposed user passwords stored as MD5 hashes which are considered cryptographically weak and susceptible to cracking. This security failure poses a high risk of targeted phishing attacks and unauthorized account access within the medical community.
