In April 2018 the Russian GTA San Andreas Multiplayer gaming project known as SGL-RP suffered a significant data breach. An unauthorized party managed to gain access to the backend database resulting in the exposure of approximately 40 thousand user accounts. The compromised data included sensitive information such as account usernames associated email addresses IP addresses used during registration or login and passwords stored as MD5 hashes with salt. This incident highlights the vulnerability of small to medium gaming communities to credential theft and targeted attacks.
