Shadi

In July 2016 the Muslim matrimonial and dating service Shadi experienced a significant data breach. The incident involved the unauthorized access and disclosure of sensitive user information from the platform database. The breach exposed over 2 million unique records including account details and security credentials. Investigations revealed that the attackers managed to extract data including email addresses and passwords stored using the outdated MD5 hashing algorithm which is highly vulnerable to cracking. Additionally plain text representations of some passwords and registration dates were part of the leaked dataset posing a severe security risk to the affected users.
