ShareReactor.ru which was a major Russian media and file sharing portal suffered a significant data breach in December 2012. The incident resulted in the unauthorized disclosure of approximately 130000 user records. The leaked dataset contained sensitive information including email addresses, unique nicknames, and IP addresses used for access. Furthermore, user passwords were exposed in the form of MD5 hashes with salts. This security failure allowed threat actors to distribute the database across various underground forums and public repositories, compromising the privacy of the Russian media community.
