Shein

In June 2018 the global online fashion retailer Shein suffered a significant data breach when malicious actors gained unauthorized access to its servers. The incident resulted in the compromise of millions of customer records. The company later disclosed that the breach occurred through a sophisticated cyberattack on their systems which allowed hackers to steal sensitive user credentials. While the attack was identified later the scale of the exposed data made it one of the largest retail breaches of that year highlighting vulnerabilities in legacy password hashing methods like MD5 which were easily decrypted by attackers.
