ShockGore

In August 2020 the graphic content website ShockGore suffered a significant data breach. The incident exposed sensitive information from a community dedicated to sharing violent imagery. The hack resulted in the disclosure of personal user details and private messages which included specific requests for controversial materials. The technical cause involved a direct compromise of the sites database where passwords were found to be stored using weak SHA-1 hashing algorithms without salt making them highly vulnerable to cracking.
