In June 2020 a database containing information on approximately five million students of the Skyeng online English language school was put up for sale on darknet forums for 40 thousand rubles. The incident involved the exposure of sensitive personal details including email addresses and phone numbers. The data later became publicly available on various leak platforms. While the company initially denied a massive breach of their primary systems investigators suggested the data might have been collected through unauthorized access or scraping of internal marketing databases.
