In January 2014 a massive security breach occurred at Snapchat following warnings from security researchers about API vulnerabilities. Hackers exploited the Find Friends feature to scrape user data by submitting a large volume of phone numbers to the system. This brute force attack resulted in the exposure of millions of account details.
