In June 2011 the Sony Pictures Entertainment website was compromised by the hacking group LulzSec using a SQL injection attack. The breach exposed sensitive personal details of approximately thirty seven thousand users. The attackers targeted promotional contest databases and user accounts to demonstrate security vulnerabilities within the Sony infrastructure.
