In late 2015 a massive marketing and spam database known as the Special K Data Feed was discovered exposed on the internet. The dataset contained nearly 31 million unique records. The exposure included highly personal identifiers such as full names physical residences and digital footprints like IP addresses. The nature of the data suggests it was a compiled lead list used for large scale spam campaigns or marketing operations. No specific hack was reported instead the data was found on an unsecured server accessible to the public which is a common occurrence with bulk data aggregators.
