In early 2018 the popular online multiplayer space shooter StarBlast.fr suffered a significant data breach. A large database containing user account information was compromised and subsequently shared across various hacking forums and data aggregators. The incident involved the exposure of sensitive identification and authentication details for players globally. The breach was primarily attributed to an insecure database configuration which allowed unauthorized access to the internal storage systems containing registered player profiles and their associated metadata.
