In August 2022 the Russian streaming platform Start.ru suffered a major data breach involving approximately 44 million records. The incident occurred due to an unauthorized access to the service database which led to the exposure of sensitive user information. The leaked dataset included 7.4 million unique email addresses alongside hashed passwords in MD5CRYPT format and country codes. Many records also contained internal technical logs and device information. The company confirmed the breach but stated that financial data was not compromised because payment information is stored separately.
