In January 2021 the Russian online retailer StrikePlanet which specializes in airsoft equipment suffered a data breach. The incident led to the exposure of a database containing information on over 40000 customers. The compromised data included sensitive personal details and security credentials. Analysis of the leak revealed that passwords were stored as MD5 hashes with salt which are susceptible to cracking. The breach likely occurred due to a vulnerability in the web application or a database misconfiguration allowing unauthorized access to the customer backend.
