SumoTorrent

In April 2016 the torrent file sharing platform SumoTorrent suffered a security breach that compromised approximately 293 thousand user records. The incident involved the unauthorized access and extraction of sensitive database information. The exposed data included user nicknames email addresses IP addresses and passwords stored as MD5 hashes. This event followed a previous security incident in 2014 where around 285 thousand accounts were also affected. The breach highlights vulnerabilities in legacy hashing algorithms and the risks associated with peer to peer sharing communities.
