In 2022 the Russian online lighting retailer Sundark.ru experienced a data breach involving its customer database. The incident resulted in the exposure of over 25 thousand records. The leaked information originated from a compromised database and included sensitive user credentials and communication details. Security analysts identified that the passwords were stored using the weak MD5 hashing algorithm which is susceptible to cracking. The leak also contained internal metadata such as user message history and timestamps of activity on the platform.
