In 2023 the Russian restaurant reservation service Tablepin experienced a data breach that resulted in the exposure of its user database. The incident involved the compromise of approximately 60000 records. Technical analysis of the leaked files revealed that the data included personal identifiers and security credentials. The passwords within the dataset were stored using MD5 hashing with salt which is considered a weak cryptographic protection by modern standards. The leak likely originated from a vulnerability in the web application or an unauthorized access to the backend database server allowing attackers to export the full customer table.
