In November 2019 the Vietnamese educational platform Tailieu suffered a significant data breach that exposed the personal information of approximately 7.3 million users. The incident involved the unauthorized access and subsequent publication of a database containing sensitive user details. The leaked information included full names email addresses dates of birth and passwords. A major security concern highlighted by this breach was that passwords were stored using the weak MD5 hashing algorithm without any salt making them highly vulnerable to cracking and credential stuffing attacks.
