Tele2

In August 2022 a major data breach involving the Russian telecommunications provider Tele2 was disclosed. The incident resulted in the unauthorized exposure of a database containing information on approximately 7.5 million customers. The leaked data originated from an internal system and was subsequently distributed on various darknet forums and telegram channels. The compromise included personal identifiers such as full names and contact details which posed a significant privacy risk to the affected subscriber base. Tele2 confirmed the leak and initiated an internal investigation into the security failure which was reportedly linked to a third party service provider or an internal technical vulnerability.
