In November 2019 the Iranian business and exchange trading platform TheGulfbiz suffered a data breach that exposed information from approximately 46 thousand users. The incident involved the publication of sensitive account details including email addresses and usernames. Additionally the leak contained network identifiers and passwords stored as salted MD5 hashes. This exposure posed a significant risk to the user base as salted MD5 is considered a weak hashing algorithm by modern security standards making it vulnerable to brute force attacks.
