The gaming community portal Thered.su suffered a data breach in 2013 resulting in the exposure of its user database. The incident impacted approximately 27000 registered forum members who participated in discussions regarding various online games. The leaked information included sensitive technical and personal details such as internet protocol addresses and account credentials. Specifically the passwords were stored as MD5 hashes which are considered cryptographically weak and susceptible to cracking attempts. The breach highlights the risks associated with older forum software and insufficient hashing algorithms used for credential storage during that era.
