In December 2012 the zombie survival MMO game known as The War Z suffered a major security breach. Attackers gained unauthorized access to the game databases via a vulnerability in the vBulletin forum software. This incident led to the exposure of sensitive account details for approximately 320000 registered players. The stolen data included account names, email addresses, IP addresses, and salted passwords. The developers eventually rebranded the game to Infestation: Survivor Stories following the breach and other controversies.
