In 2014 the Thisishabbo Forum which was a community site dedicated to the Finnish social network Habbo was compromised. The security breach resulted in the unauthorized access and extraction of a database containing user credentials. The leaked information included member usernames email addresses IP addresses and salted MD5 password hashes. While an initial set of 27 thousand records was publicly released a significantly larger portion of the database totaling over 580 thousand records was reportedly circulating in private circles by late 2016. The incident highlights the vulnerability of fan communities and forum platforms during that era.
