Tianya

In December 2011 the popular Chinese social forum Tianya suffered a major security breach. Attackers managed to compromise the database and extract personal information of tens of millions of users. The security incident was significant due to the storage of passwords in plaintext which exposed users to immediate account takeovers across multiple platforms. This event remains one of the largest and most notable data breaches in the history of the Chinese internet community.
