About this leak
In August 2020 the Dutch online ticketing platform TicketCounter suffered a major data exposure after a backup database was accidentally left in a publicly accessible location. The breach was subsequently discovered by malicious actors and put up for sale on a popular hacking forum in February 2021. The exposed records included information belonging to nearly 2 million users. The data set contained sensitive details such as full names physical addresses payment history and bank account numbers. The leak occurred due to a misconfiguration of a cloud storage bucket which allowed unauthorized access to the backup file without authentication. Eventually the data was leaked for free on the dark web.
